Announcements

In order to keep up with the times the youngsters are moving away from Teamspeak 3 and towards a piece of software that requires less brain power and is free called Discord. In order to capitalize on our clan being more compatible with possible new players (and to save some cash) the 81st Elite Eagles have moved on to using Discord as our main communications application.

As can be seen on the front page of the website we have a big, easy to read, widget showing who is on and the channels we have. Chat integration may come in the near future as well. For now the public can join our server by clicking on the connect button on the widget. They do not get the permanent "link" and after a certain amount of time that link expires and they have to come back to our site and click for a new one. Clan members are given the "permanent link". This is a URL instead of an IP address and port number like Teamspeak.

Security, administration, and moderation will be dealt with in the near future. Clan members obviously already have a lot of options available to them.

If any of our members who have been gone a while have trouble connecting contact a live member on Origin, Steam, or through our web site Private Messages for help.

The 81st Elite Eagles now have a Battlefield 1 server up and running! Please search for "81st" in your browser or set your Advanced Search to "200%" bullet damage to find our server in the browser.

  • Our server is a 64 slot Conquest server with the closest to "classic" Hardcore settings we can get it. This includes no minimap, crosshair, or ammo count.
  • Unlike the other HC servers currently running we do NOT have bolt action rifles available for every class. This makes the classes used as intended rather than all being snipers.
  • Infantry and vehicle respawns times have been set at 50% of stock time to make them spawn twice as fast in case someone wastes and important vehicle and hurts the team.
  • Maps in the maps list are grouped in a way to try and keep the infantry mostly maps together and the vehicle mostly maps together as well.

Don't forget to Favorite our server if you enjoy your time there and we hope to see some new folks along with our old friends.

Today marks 10 full years since this clan was officially founded. By this I mean with a server to call home and a communications program server to keep in touch.

The original members of this clan existed as a group of players rather than a clan before this date for a small time. However, it was on October 3, 2006 when clan co-founder Apache went ahead and along with his brother using the moniker Death and another laid back founder Zookeeper decided to make a new home for disgruntled tactical players from various other clans that were still playing MOH:AA Spearhead and soon the revolutionary COD4! These were your original Generals of the clan along with Brigadier General Babydoll. I, Master Shake, was just a pubber at the time who came along and owned these poor old guys. Instead of banning me for killing them too much like others at the time did. They did the smart thing. They offered me a high rank and put me to work owning their enemies!

It wasn't until March of 2007 that I was given the reigns of this clan to keep it going for the guys who stuck around and didn't want to see a good thing go. It was a double edged sword. I didn't really have the time to invest in running a clan. I had to learn on the spot config files for the various engines of the games we played. I had to learn basic level coding. I was forced into dabbling with web design and SQL server structure and manipulation since no clan worth it's salt doesn't have it's own web page. The bad news was a lost a lot of time making sure others had a clan and place to play. The good news was that I made many new friends across the world while learning things I could use in the real. It's been 10 years now and I think my investment was worth it.

This clan has adopted many games over the years. We started with Spearhead while having a heavily modified server to call home for a few years. Towards the end of Spearhead's run we tried moving to COD4. This is where we learned it is hard to move an entire clan base to a new game. Something that continues to be a problem to this day. Next was COD World at War. After COD became console favored instead of PC Battlefield: Bad Company 2 took over as the clan's game of choice quickly followed by Vietnam. Due to losing many members who wanted to play tactical only we attempted to move to Red Orchestra 2 followed by Rising Storm. But the playerbase for these games just wasn't large enough to grow as a clan. Then came Battlefield 3 with it's large playerbase. At one point we tried out the game Ravaged which appeared to have potential until the developers just quit on the project right after converting it into yet another lame zombie game instead of an apocalyptic Battlefield game like it started out as. Battlefield 4 has been our main game since with some dabbling into Battlefield Hardline. Later this month Battlefield 1 will be released. It is unknown how large the playerbase will be for this game or if it will fail as badly as Hardline did, but the 81st intend to support this game with our own server again.

I'd like to finish this with a shout out to all of those members, past and present, who helped this clan whether with technical expertise or just filling up our servers with bodies. I miss quite a few of our members who have moved on and hope all is well with them.

Here's to hoping the 81st can make it another 10 years somehow and continue the tradition of bringing together great gaming players for good times.

With Battlefield 1 coming out soon it is time for the 81st to bolster their ranks. After seeing what the Alpha has to show along with the media released by Electronic Arts it does appear this is the Battlefield game we were hoping for. By that we mean based more on skill rather than handicaps. Gone will be lock on rockets and missiles, direct kill cam showing where your killer is exactly, and easy aim guidance of vehicles. This clan started as a tactical clan. Back then that meant walk only and not run and gun, spray and pray. We checked doorways, cleared halls, and secured positions. While that type of gameplay can't be forced anymore this new Battlefield does punish those who run around without a care in the world. The player skins match the environment more for better concealment. The extension morphing of the terrain provides more hiding places such as craters and embankments as the round wears on. Specific weapons are only strong in their roles thus forcing players to choose wisely. This all SHOULD add up to a more skillful and more TACTICAL playerbase. This also may mean that many of the current population will abandom this game without the crutches that are available in BF3 and BF4.

With that said we are looking for new blood in our clan. It has been a while since we have been actively seeking new members. If the above sounds like what you are looking forward to in this new game then maybe see if you like our clan. We prefer Hardcore mode without 3rd person view, spotting, and magical healing. We would like our members to be older than 18 due to maturity issues and possible availability. We also only speak English in comms. We play on United States servers so we look for local players. The 81st uses Team Speak as their method of communications outside of the game. We have a ranking system and when in competition we use it for leadership. There are other things to mention, but it would be easier to just hop on TS and get to know us. The IP is 8.9.5.238 and the guest password is 81stguest.

We hope to battle you soon.
